Safety Advisory Committee
The Safety Advisory Committee supports a safe learning, living, and working environment at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ through risk analysis and mitigation while promoting a culture of safety with actively engaged community members.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National Safety Council, the top three nonfatal workplace injury categories, accounting for over 75% of lost time injuries, are overexertion, falls/slips/trips, and contact with objects or equipment. We do have these same types of incidents happen on campus, especially slips and falls due to winter weather conditions.
Belonging to a self-insured workers' compensation consortium, our collective safety efforts have a direct impact on our coverage costs. Environmental Health and Safety staff are available to provide guidance on ways to reduce risk, including through ergonomics assessments and training programs.
Annual Committee Goals
- Maintain fewer workers’ compensation claims
- Maintain workers’ compensation Mod rate <1 (this is a calculation based on claims; 2025 rate is 0.88)
- Maintain fewer lost time incidents and fewer lost time days
- Maintain best practice lag time for employee reporting of incidents (current average is two days)
- Maintain high rates of training completion for regulatory requirements
- Maintain high rates of training completion for special event staff and volunteers
- Offer more proactive training offerings (ex., CPR/AED, Narcan)
